Hop on the TGV in Paris and you can be in the heart of Anjou in no time. It’s a perfect day trip from Paris and the opportunity to discover one of France’s best-kept secrets, the wonderful wines of the Loire Valley.
Put aside any preconceived ideas of wine tourism and go with the flow. Dominated by the river, this beautiful wine region is like no other region in France. Don’t expect to find lots of fancy tasting rooms or winery restaurants. Big egos don’t exist here. Instead you’ll find growers striving to make the very best wine they can with a passion for quality.
The Loire valley is the place for adventurous drinkers, people who love to discover. With a wide range of grape varieties that includes Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon and Melon de Bourgogne for whites, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Malbec for reds this is just scratching the surface. Add to that a climate that changes from year to year, terroir that changes from West to East and you can see how fascinating this region is if you dig beneath the surface.
Le Tasting Room Loire Valley Wine Tours offers you the chance to get under the skin of the Loire. A day with us consists of a morning spent in our own tasting room where we’ll show you wines from 6 different growers from 6 different locations in the Loire. We’ll introduce you to the personalities behind the wines, talk about terroir, winemaking techniques and vineyard management and then join you for a home cooked lunch during which we taste all the wines again with food. Our tours are slow tours and we take our time so you can really get a feel for life in the Loire.
In the afternoon we head off into the vineyards for a winery visit, carefully chosen and often organic. Many small growers don’t have tasting rooms and you’re likely to meet the owner, daughter, son or grandma. We also like to get you out into the vineyards to show you how growers look after their vines to ensure they have high quality fruit.
Cathy & Nigel Henton of Le Tasting Room are English wine professionals with 35 years experience in the wine trade in France and in the UK. All tours are in English.
