David Sawyer did not envision a career in the food and beverage industry growing up. Born and raised in Manchester, England, Sawyer started his career as a photographer in New York City and worked with some of the world’s most renowned brands Nike, Giorgio Armani, and Tiffany Co. Sawyer’s career reached a turning point while on a shoot for Babbo Restaurant in 2008. After the shoot, the restaurant’s Beverage Director David Lynch offered Sawyer a wine recommendation, and from then on, Sawyer was hooked. “The eloquence and passion with which Lynch spoke about wines was contagious and that was a game changer for me,” he recalls. After graduating and passing the Court of Master Sommeliers Certified exam, Sawyer and his wife moved to Charleston where he shadowed under Husk Sommelier Matt Tunstall.
